Mchenga group is composed of 15 women based in the Mulanje district southern Malawi. All are married except for two who are separated and one who is a widow. The members have children and care for orphans between them. These women run different small businesses to create self-employment and sustain their families, their business include selling fish, snacks, vegetables, grocery shop, cereals and clothes.
We have provided a ‘micro finance’ to enable them to purchase more products for their businesses. They started the business to create self-employment and to provide for their families.
Mary is a married woman, she is 44 years old. She is a mother of seven children, her husband works as a forest officer. Mary owns a grocery shop. She requires the loan to buy more stocks for her shops which includes salt, sugar and cooking oil. The profits from the business will enable her to feed her family. She started the business to provide for her family. She has been running the business for 6 years and her ambition is to expand her business and to construct a good house for her family.
